Integration in everyday life
Integration is the ongoing work of making sense of an experience and deciding what, if anything, you want to bring into daily life.
Start with the basics
Give yourself time to rest, eat, and return to your usual routines. Your experience may feel clear, confusing, ordinary, or difficult. None of those reactions needs to be turned into a lesson immediately.
Write what you noticed
A few sentences can be enough. What do you remember? What feelings or questions remain? What would you like to discuss with someone you trust? Separate the event itself from the meaning you give it; that meaning can change over time.
Try one small action
If you noticed a wish for more connection, you might arrange a walk with a friend. If you noticed a need for rest, you might protect an evening on your calendar. Choose something manageable and check in after a week. You do not need to make a major life decision while an experience is fresh.
Ask for support
A trusted friend, integration group, or qualified mental health professional can help you talk through what is coming up. If distress persists or you feel unsafe, seek professional or emergency support in your area. Our guide to difficult experiences offers more context.
